AFFINITY BY SARAH WATERS
I am a fan of dark, Gothic, Victorian thrillers that catch your breath. Being thrilled while reading – this is what I love in fiction books. Plus, if a novel is dark, Gothic, and Victorian, this is an absolutely beast-mode read for me. 'Affinity' by Sarah Waters is one of these rare novels that I enjoyed reading.
Sarah Waters is a New York Times bestselling author of several books such as 'The Little Stranger', 'The Night Watch', 'Fingersmith', 'Affinity', and 'Tipping the Velvet'. 'Affinity' is a gothic tale with psychological twists. The book transfers you to Victorian London's grimmest jail – Millbank prison. Margaret Prior who is a professional psychotherapist begins visiting the women ward and meets a mysterious spiritualist Selina Dawes who was imprisoned after an unsuccessful session she was carrying out. Margaret Prior who is a lesbian begins falling in love with Selina Dawes. Read the book to see how these feelings will turn out for Margaret.
I enjoyed reading this thriller. It is filled with elements of suspense, psychology, gothic atmosphere, passion, and mystery. Even though this novel is not packed with actions, I still enjoyed it for the psychological twists the story was creating in my mind. I am very excited to read other books by Sarah Waters.
This is a must-read suspense thriller. Regardless of your age and gender, you will love this book if you are into dark, Gothic, and thrilling stories.
