MANHUNT: SEARCH FOR BIN LADEN BY PETER BERGEN
Osama bin Laden might be the modern time's most mysterious man. His life is a whole mystery. I am sure that only his wives and comrades knew this man very well. We know about his birth, youth, his was against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, but his life after 9/11 is still a big mystery. He was on the run and the U.S. intelligence services were hunting him for almost a decade. This of his life and the whole manhunt process is well-described in 'Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden from 9/11 to Abbottabad' by Peter Bergen.
Peter Bergen is the author of four books about Osama bin Laden and AL Qaeda, three of which are New York Times bestsellers. The author is CNN's national security analyst. 'Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden from 9/11 to Abbottabad' is not a biography of Osama bin. Instead, the author emphasizes our attention at the specific period from 9/11 until the assassination of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad. Immediately after the assassination operation, Peter Bergen flew to Abbottabad and he was one of the few who were allowed in the compound itself. Later, Peter Bergen collected a lot of intelligence from the CIA, NSA officials regarding the manhunt. This book is packed with a lot of information you won't be able to find on the Internet. It tells about the personal life of Osama bin Laden, his wives, the construction of the compound in Abbottabad, his daily life in that building, and all the circumstances that eventually led to his assassination by US Navy Seals.
I loved this book. In a very easy and readable manner, Peter Bergen descriptively tells a lot about Osama bin Laden after 9/11 and before this fateful date. I hate when non-fiction books are written in a novelistic style. I prefer the documentary-style narration. This book is exempt from all the boring dialogs and novelistic stuff. For me, a non-fiction book should be informative and readable.
If you are interested in the personality of Osama bin Laden, his activities before and after 9/11, the war between the USA and Al Qaeda, and finally, the assassination of Osama by American Navy Seal, you won't find a better book than 'Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden from 9/11 to Abbottabad. Even though that the author's goal was to describe a specific period of time, this wonderful work has a lot of information on international geopolitics, intelligence services, and other topics that will be interesting for a wide audience of readers.
