THE CENT TRAIL BY CELIA LYTTELTON
The world of scents is infinite and unlimited. The sense of scent is the most powerful sense we have. Beautiful fragrances and perfume have a powerful ability off lifting our mood and emotions. There is something mysterious in the sphere of olfactory senses. 'The Scent Trail: How One Woman's Quest for the Perfect Perfume Took her Around the World' by Celia Lyttelton is one of the best books on scents I have ever read in my life.
Celia Lyttelton is a perfume lover. She has loads of different perfumes in her collection. What is more, she knows a lot about fragrances and perfume making. Now, she is at the stage when she is not satisfied with mainstream and niche fragrances anymore. Celia wants something special and unique. She decides to compose her ideal signature perfume. 'The Scent Trail' is a travel memoir telling about Celia's international journey to find the world's best ingredients for perfume making. In the beginning, Celia visits a professional perfumer in London and they select ingredients for her perfect perfume. Then, she starts traveling around the world to find natural ingredients of the highest quality to bring them back to London. Her journey takes her to Yemen, Tuscany, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Tibet, and many other countries around the world. The book mentions the history of perfume. What is more, Celia tells a lot of information about different scents, plants, and flowers used in perfumery. Some of them are cinnamon, rose, jasmine, iris, and loads of other plants that make different notes in fragrances.
As a person interested in fragrances and perfumery, I enjoyed reading this book. The story of Celia is very interesting and captivating. It is happening in different areas of the world. Thus, you feel like traveling with the author. I also love the informative element of the book. The author tells a lot about various plants, flowers, ingredients, and chemicals used in perfume making. This is a very educational novel.
If you are a perfume lover, then, you will surely love this book. It will tell you a lot about perfumes, fragrances, and the art of perfumery. The story is also very entertaining. However, if you aren't much interested in perfumes, I think that you will be bored by this book.
