WHY WE SLEEP BY MATTHEW WALKER PH.D
Proper sleep is crucial for our health. Without food, you can live up to several weeks. Without sleep, you will fall unconscious after only 1.5 or 2 days. Thus, sleep is vital. Whats is more, bad quality of sleep is always linked to serious health problems. To learn more about sleep, I read 'Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreaming' by Matthew Walker Ph. D.
Professor Matthew Walker is the world's leading expert in sleep, director of UC Berkley's Sleep and Neuroimaging Lab. Right now, 'Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreaming' is a bestseller. It is on all charts. Even Bill Gates is recommending this book on his blog. The book is worth all the popularity, fame, and hype it gets. The author tells about the origins and history of sleep. He shares his knowledge on the mechanisms of sleep, its importance for the proper functionality of our organism. Matthew Walker also tells a lot about the neurochemicals and conditions that either contribute to high-quality or low-quality sleep. The author shares a lot of new studies and discoveries in the field of sleep and mechanisms of sleep. In the final part of the book, professor Matthew Walker gives his recommendations and tips on how to achieve the proper quality of sleep.
I loved the book very much. Even though I thought that I knew a lot about sleep, this book changed my opinion. A lot that we know about sleep is wrong. For example, did you know that melatonin is not as important for good sleep as adenosine? This book opened my eyes to the science of sleep. It is very complex and mysterious. The science of sleep reminds mee of the neuroscience. Both of them are not well-studied yet. We are still guessing, and we don't have exact knowledge regarding different aspects of sleep. Sleep is vital for our health, and this awesome book provided mee with a lot of information, knowledge, and tips on how to improve the quality and depth of my sleep.
Subjects that are linked to health are important to everyone. Therefore, I recommend this book to everyone regardless of your reading preferences. 'Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams' by Matthew Walker is written in a very relaxed and talkative style. Even though it is a non-fiction book, all the boring academic and scientific elements are not present in this work. It is very readable and easy to understand. Finally, the knowledge that you will get from this book will help you improve the quality of your sleep, and thereby, enhance your overall health.
